The daughter of an exotic dancer and a Ford factory worker, Jerilyn has committed her life to self-exploration which organically evolved into a fascination with telling other people's stories through writing, an outlet she adopted at the age of five. She spent four years as the music editor of popular alt-weekly the Detroit Metro Times, where she honed her craft and developed a massive portfolio of interviews with Detroit artists and community leaders, as well as some of the most notable figures in music, film, comedy, and television.
Filmmaker Terrence Malick once sent her a typewritten letter about love and Kid Rock personally and publicly called her “sad” and “dark,” which has sparked an ongoing feud with grammatically challenged Kid Rock fans, mostly those with Yahoo email address and Android phones. She once wrote a screenplay for Nicolas Cage (it was rejected.) Jerilyn has been referred to as the Hunter S. Thompson of Detroit.
She enjoys Radiohead, Elliott Smith, rewatching Frasier regularly, cooking vegan food, tending to her magic mushroom garden, and sleeping. Currently, Jerilyn lives in Southwest Detroit with her foam sword-fighting husband Austin — who serves as the preservation project manager at the Fairlane Estate: The Home of Henry and Clara Ford — and their four cats Pixel, Woody, Wolf, and Celine.
